Tele-Psychiatry
Appointments in the comfort of your own home
Telepsychiatry is treatment provided through an audio visual link (AVL). This has been standard practice for the remote areas in Australia for a number of years. With the COVID-19 pandemic there has been rapid transition to use AVL to prevent the spread of the virus. Following the lockdown period, Telepsychiatry has become more mainstream and has the benefit for you to be able to remain in your own home environment and reduce taking time off to travel to appointments. We use a secure a Telehealth platform that is user friendly.
Regulations
The New Zealand Medical Council (NZMC) and the Royal Association of Australian and New Zealand Psychiatrists (RANZCP) supports the use of Telepsyschiatry. In New Zealand however there is a restriction to prescribing medication without an initial Face-to-Face consultation. Assessments can still be provided with recommendations for treatment to your GP.
Please note: Telepsychiatry is not appropriate for acute assessments.
